This is one of the most practical considerations. Bifolding doors require the panels to fold and stack, which means you need enough clear space alongside the opening for the door stack. If your patio or garden is directly adjacent to a wall or a corner, this can limit your options.

Sliding doors, by contrast, have a much smaller footprint. The panels glide back but remain within the frame zone, so they work particularly well in tighter spaces or where your external area extends right to the edge of the opening.
