Admiral Trade Division Launched

Over the last 10 years we have been very successful in moving the business into the area of Design and Build, introducing high specification timber products along with bi-fold doors, orangeries and re-modelling work. Our more local builders and home owners were left largely unattended during the transition and many have requested that we return to providing a local supply and installation service for PVC windows, Roof line and Flat Roofing products. Having built a database running to thousands of customers over 25 years, we are also referred to for conservatory and window repairs. Due to this demand we have recruited Kieron Gibbs an experienced glazing and home improvement professional to run ADMIRAL TRADE DIVISION. Local builders and home owners throughout Cambridgeshire can now access Admirals award winning services in these areas. Look out for Kierons profile soon in the… Read More

New website on the way

www.newconservatoryroof.com will be launched in January. We have consulted with building control over a six month period to enable conservatory owners to receive FULL building regulation certification on changing a conservatory roof to a tiled one. See Installation of the month for our first approved makeover. Read More

Another first for Admiral

Admiral are pleased to be able to announce that we are the first company to be awarded full type approval with HDC for changing a conservatory roof with a solid tiled one. Whereas most installation companies hide behind nefarious use of LABC Logos and mis-information, Admiral have a record of doing it the right way, as hard as this sometimes makes things. We have in house structural engineers and 10 years experience in gaining hundreds of approvals for largely glazed extensions. This has led to a partnership with our local building regulation department that in turn has enabled us to gain approvals where other companies struggle to achieve them. We expect this to lead to a surge in this type of work during 2014. Read More

Aluminium sales on the increase

Over almost 25 years we have seen many home fashion switches. The next one may be a swing back to aluminium windows and doors. Bi-Fold doors are definitely preferable in aluminium rather than PVCu because lots of glass means lots of weight. PVCu is simply not rigid enough if the glass gets really large. The interest in maximum light and maximum views means aluminium is making a comeback. Watch this space!… Read More

Homeowners beware of large extensions

Extending your property is often a far more financially beneficial way to gain extra living space without the expense, and trauma, of moving. Whilst ‘don’t move, improve’ is still a sound property mantra, as home-owners don’t then face legal or estate agency fees, it’s important to be aware of the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL). Building an extension of 100 square metres or more can add tens of thousands of pounds to the cost due to the CIL, which is a relatively new planning tax that has been introduced by many councils, including Huntingdonshire District Council. Steve Thorogood, Managing Director of Admiral Homespace, cautions, “Although this levy is relatively little known, it can make a significant financial difference to a proposed large extension. Whilst there are not many built to such a large remit, property owners should be aware of… Read More

Ease stress this winter with a Winter Home Check

Government climate advisers say that investing now in low-carbon and renewable energy is likely to save householders as much as £600 a year on their electricity bills in the future. That’s all well and good but what about saving on fuel bills now? You can help beat the energy fuel rises with a winter-check on your home: Make sure ill-fitting doors and windows are secure against the icy clasp of winter frosts and winds, stopping costly heat from escaping in to the cold. Check pipes and make sure they’re insulated to stop freezing and water bursts. Check your roof for loose slates. Check flat roofs for wear and tear where leaks could occur. Steve Thorogood, Managing Director of Admiral Homespace, explains, “Adding double glazing and insulation to homes and… Read More
