Tiled Conversions
Some companies are wrongly advising that building control regulations do not apply if changing a conservatory roof to a tiled one.
We urge caution in this regard and advise that you speak or write to building control before you part with your money.
Structural calculations are often required due to the additional load imposed. Even the lightest imitation tile system can weigh twice as much as some conservatory roofs.
We will provide full structural information to building control and supply you with ‘end to end’ written certification for the work. Invaluable if you should ever sell your house.
A PVC conservatory in particular is not designed to take a solid roof without structural frame supports (see image: Bolster Support Posts). We would not consider fitting a tiled roof without these and strongly advise that you ask for this necessary support whoever might carry out your conservatory roof replacement.
Glass Roof replacement
Sometimes the answer to a roof problem may be to upgrade from polycarbonate to high specification glass in the roof.
Our Ultimate Glazed Roofs have extremely low U values and can be tinted and specified using Solar control glass. This new breed of glass is aesthetically pleasing and allows you to keep your conservatory as ‘a conservatory’ whilst ensuring year round comfort.
Our designer will discuss the practicalities and offer advice on any structural implications of changing an old polycarbonate roof to a heavier glass roof.
